Thunder Bay 50/50 Awards $2.35 Million Grand Prize to Timmins Winner

When Foundation CEO, Glenn Craig asked this month's Thunder Bay 50/50 winner if she had big plans for the weekend, there was a brief moment of silence on the other end of the line. That's when José Bordeleau of Timmins began to realize what was about to happen.

“I think you should make some plans,” Craig said, before sharing the news that she was the August Thunder Bay 50/50 grand prize winner of $2,355,290. The call caught José out shopping with her husband, who was in the background saying, “Is it true? Is it legit?” — to which she replied, “They call at 11 — I saw the number.”

José shared that life has been busy, with three daughters who all bought homes this year and are all getting married. “So that's amazing — to be able to help with that, for sure,” she said. “When you win you often don't think of yourself, you think of others.”

She added that she has been buying Thunder Bay 50/50 tickets for a while. And, as it turns out, luck runs in the family — years earlier, her daughter won a Jeep in the Timmins and District Hospital lottery when it first launched.

Jose's win marks the 24th consecutive month of Thunder Bay 50/50 millionaires and becomes the Foundation's 7th multi-millionaire. To date, more than $73 million in prizes has been awarded to players across Ontario.
